What is chlamydia prostatitis?
Chlamydia prostatitis is a prostatitis caused by chlamydia infection. Chlamydia trachomatis infect men's urinary tract in the beginning, if it is maltreated or left untreated, infection may spread locally in genital system and urinary system, and result in prostatitis.
What damage can chlamydia prostatitis cause?
Except for common prostatitis and chlamydia infection symptoms, chlamydia prostatitis can also cause the following conditions or symptoms:
1 When chlamydia causes
prostatitis, prostate fluid is affected, which is one of the compositions of semen fluid. Bad prostate fluid can reduce the motility of sperm and even kill sperm.
2 Chlamydia trachomatis in semen fluid can directly affect sperm cells and reduce the motility.
3 Chlamydia infection can also cause a liquefaction problem of semen fluid. If semen cannot liquefy normally, sperm can hardly swim in the fluid. Normally, it takes 10- 30 minutes for semen fluid to liquefy, if the progress doesn't happen 30 mins after semen is ejaculated, there is a liquefaction problem.
4 If chlamydia infects prostate gland, sexual dysfunction, like ED or premature ejaculation may occur.
5 As both prostatitis and chlamydia can affect semen, infertility is also a problem which bothers chlamydia prostatitis patients.
How is chlamydia prostatitis tested?
Digital Rectal Examination
DRE is done to check for growths in or enlargement of the prostate gland in men. A tumor in the prostate can often be felt as a hard lump. This may be done as part of a regular examination or to check on symtpoms, such as a change in urination. Not all problems of the prostate can be felt through the rectum. During the examination, the doctor gently puts a lubricated, gloved finger of one hand into the rectum. He or she may use the other hand to press on the lower belly or pelvic area.
Urine test or semen test
A test may also be performed to detect white blood cells and/or bacteria(or chlamydia) in the urine and semen. The test is to see whether chlamydia or any other pathogens are present and causing an infection. There're several types of tests can be used to find a chlamydia infection, including: nucleic acid amplification test(NAAT), nucleic acid hybridization test(DNA probe test), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA, EIA), direct fluorescent antibody test(DFA), and chlamydia culture.
